The Gap
Every designer has experienced "the gap" at some point—that thin line between quitting and pushing through a design. My experience was no different, except that I had to produce a product; there was no option to quit.
For me, it was feeling stuck, having constant iteration, wondering, Why isn’t this working?, beating myself up, and mentally draining myself. Ira Glass says that it’s the extra work you put in that gets you out of this position. But for me, it wasn’t about more work—I had already done all the work. What got me out of my gap was a conversation I had with Brian Donnelly. Shoutout to him. That conversation was my way of fighting the gap and pushing forward.
What I’m saying is that overcoming the matrix of the gap will look different for everyone. But it’s that extra push, whatever it may be for you, that makes the difference. And I highly recommend pushing through.
