What's your rule?
Find a place you trust, and then try trusting it for a while. - R1
Trust is a risk that is not often spoken about. I recently had to trust my gut to design a solution for a problem close to my heart. Did it win me the design challenge? NO. But did I have to trust that this signifies who I am as a designer and my empathy? YES! I care about stories that have not yet been formed, marginalized societies, and underrepresented people!
So, the rule that resonates with me as a designer is: “Nothing is a mistake. There is no win or fail. There is only make.” - R6
This is because, as designers, our choices have no mistakes—only the rationale, our reasoning, and how it impacts the target audience and the story you are trying to create. Who you are? You need to trust and know there is no failing or winning; there is only making. This leads to improvement, iteration, and growth. With that, my reimagined rule is: “Nothing is a mistake. Everything is an avenue for Growth.” - R11
